  • 3D Printing

    Tech Academy Harry Potter: Learn 3D design and modeling skills using Tinkercad while creating a Deathly Hallow model, then creating your own magical pendant. Students will be able to pick one design to be printed and mailed home. Additional Technical Requirement: TinkerCAD (login information provided during class) PC Needed (Windows or MacBook), will not work on Chromebook, tablets, or phones. Jewelry Design: Bring your creations to life in this 3D printing class. The ancient craft of jewelry making is brought to the modern world using TinkerCAD. Students will learn to build 3D models on the computer using CAD software. They will design a pair of earrings, and a ring. Students can pick one project to be printed. Star Wars: Students will design 3D objects using TinkerCAD (an online web app) and use the 3D slicing program Cura to bring their creations to life. We will be designing a droid. 3D Model will be printed and mailed home.     Tech Academy This 3D printing camp takes students through the 3D printing process from start to finish. Students will be designing a keychain, and the 3D print will be mailed home. No experience necessary, but familiarity with doing common tasks using a computer and keyboarding is required. Fees listed include printing fee for one project. Our virtual camps feature engaging interactive instruction in a collaborative learning environment. For each session, students will also be given access to our online classroom, which will feature recordings of the lessons and a curriculum guide with all the steps covered in class, along with instructions for project extensions. To protect students’ privacy, we do not share videos of the actual classes, but we will have follow-along recordings reviewing the instructions and activities done in class. Parents will be given the option to sign up on our classroom page for a reminder email and text before the class begins. We will be using Zoom for all our classes.     Emergency Outfitters This course is best suited for 10-13 year olds interested in learning the current practices of caring for young children and how to manage their babysitting business. Students will learn safety and injury prevention, first aid basics, feeding and caring for infants and how to handle behavior problems. Students will receive a reference book, handouts, babysitting bag and first aid kit. Please bring a writing utensil, snacks, beverage(s), and lunch. Food will not be provided. Parents - please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the end of class to pick up your child.

    CSB/SJU Computer Science Club Are you creative, like to work through problems, or enjoy a good puzzle? CS Club is open to all students in grades 6, 7, & 8. Students will learn to code in Scratch, starting with coding fundamentals and leading up to helping a robot solve problems in the real world. Creativity is key, and no two solutions are ever quite the same!

Students will practice their mental math, observe and continue patterns, solve basic functions, witness probability concepts, and relate sets and combinations. Students will learn how to play with three players and as teams.

  • FAST KIDS – Staying Safe While Home Alone

    Emergency Outfitters First Aid and Safety Trained (FAST) Kids is a course for 7-10 year old students. Lessons cover basic first aid, water safety, vehicle safety, home emergencies, injury prevention, personal safety and healthy living. This course helps prepare children for staying at home alone. Students will receive a book, handouts and a home first aid kit as part of the class. Please bring a writing utensil, snacks, beverage(s), and lunch. Food will not be provided. Parents - please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the end of class to pick up your child.
  • Fondant Fun Winter Wonderland Cookie Decorating

    Char Bzdok IT’S WINTER TIME! Come and celebrate the season with your friends and decorate some Winter holiday-themed cookies. Students will be using both fondant and frosting in this class. At the end of this class you will bring home some beautifully decorated cookies for your family - yum! A fun class activity is also planned while the cookies are drying.
  • Huskie Archery Team

    Albany Area Community Education is proud to offer the National Archery in the Schools Program. Both new and returning archery students are welcome! Our trained instructors will focus on teaching proper skills and safety for the sport of archery. All necessary equipment for participation is provided. Only NASP approved equipment is permitted to be used in practice or at tournaments (personal Genesis Bows will be allowed but must be approved by coaching staff prior to use). Practices will be held on Sunday evenings in the BECC. Additional practices may be added, depending on gym and coach availability. New archery team members will be required to do safety training the first evening of class. Layout for practices will be a little different this year: First 3 Practices: Separated by Beginners or Returning Sun Dec 8, 15, 22 Beginners (First Time in NASP): 5:00-6:00 pm Returning (In NASP Last Season/Summer): 6:00-7:00 pm Remaining Practices: Choose Your Time Preference Sun Jan 5-Mar 30 (No Class 12/24, 12/31, 1/26, or 3/9) The last practice will be the banquet which is included in this cost. Session 1: 5:00-6:00 pm OR Session 2: 6:00-7:00 pm You will select your preference for practice time in Eleyo upon registration. We will do our best to accommodate your preference. We will be adding more practices when we can on the Friday mornings before tournaments and hopefully a few more week night practices throughout the season. Please be checking your emails as we send out lots of updates in this program. Archery is coached by volunteer coaches that have gone through training and background checks. We could not do this program without their commitment, so please make sure to thank them and be respectful of their time. Parents are asked to be quiet during practices and to keep other children at home if possible. No food or drink should be brought into the BECC. Tournaments will be held on Saturdays at the below locations. Everyone will be registered for the Albany Huskie Archery Tournament on February 22, 2025. All other tournament registrations are optional and will be an additional fee of $10 per tournament. Tournament registration and deadlines to register will be shared as they are made available. Parents will be responsible for transporting their students to tournaments. Team members participating in tournaments will be assigned a one-hour flight slot and they will be free to leave after their flight. You must participate in 2 tournaments in order to be eligible at the state tournament.     Aaron Schwenzfeier, Strength & Conditioning Coach Huskie Sports Performance-Fundamentals introduces athletes to developmentally appropriate training with the most up to date training methods for middle school age students. Consistent time and effort spent training in the program will translate into improved performance in any athlete’s respective sport. Monthly sessions will be held from 7:15-8:00 am in the MSHS Weight Room.

    Middle School Play

    Paula van der Hagen, Albany Area Schools Teacher This middle school production will give students the opportunity to explore all aspects of theatre while getting time on stage in a fun, supportive, and creative environment. Each student will have a part in the play and will work on technical elements to bring the performance to life for an audience. Practices are Mondays-Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 pm and students will perform the afternoon of February 8. Play announced: My Monsters, and I is a one-act play about a boy named Kid who struggles with bottled emotions that manifest as monsters. The monsters include Depression, Anxiety, Change, Failure, and Envy. They appear in the middle of the night and refuse to leave Kid alone. The monsters teach Kid that ignoring his emotions and issues is not effective. Kid learns that emotions and issues can feed off of each other, but can also be processed more positively as growth opportunities. Hush Little Celia and Me, My Monsters, and I. Both plays have comedy and drama and explore important topics for middle school students. We are looking for kids who are creative, energetic, and like to work as a team.   • PotSpot Painting Fun

    PotSpot Instructors Join PotSpot to paint a piece of pottery of your choice. We will have an assortment of figurines, mugs, etc. for you to choose from. Parents please pick up your child from the art classroom, enter through Kids Co doors (#4 at AVE and #5 at ALE). This will allow those who may take longer than an hour to complete the project.
  • Quan Li K'an Karate Youth Class

    Adam Patterson, 6th Degree Black Belt The beginner class will focus on the fundamentals of Karate which include kicking, punching and forms. The program is taught using a series of group exercises and interactive games. Students will learn basic Karate moves and personal self defense in a fun and fast paced environment with an emphasis on discipline and self confidence. Uniforms are encouraged but are not needed to attend class. Uniforms are required for testing if the student wants to advance to the next rank. New students who register before the third class receive a free uniform.
  • Snowmobile Safety

    Steve Weber, MN DNR Instructor In this class, students will learn all the rules and regulations of snowmobiling, general operation of a snowmobile, how to read and understand trail signs, proper hand signals and general safety concerns. Students will need to come with a completed online course certification The online course is $29.95 payable to the MN DNR. The link is www.snowmobilecourse.com/usa/minnesota. Students will need to pass a driving test at the end of the course. Snowmobiles are provided for the test; however, students are required to bring their own snowmobile helmet (not allowed to share) and must come dressed for snowmobile riding (jackets, snow pants, boots, balaclava, gloves). Class will meet at the Albany Bowling Center/G'Suffa Haus Banquet Room. Students receive a temporary permit upon passing the course and a permanent permit from the state of MN by mail. This class is for 12-15 year old students. If a student turns 12 during this snowmobile season, they can take the class; however, certification is not valid until they turn 12 years old.   • Spring Youth Swim Camp

    Coach Crumley Love the water? Here's your chance to learn to be a competitive swimmer! This camp will give you an introduction to all four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly), teach you corresponding turns for each, and show the proper technique for racing starts off the blocks. The last day of class will include a fun mini-meet. Must be able to swim 25 yards of front crawl without stopping. Register by March 24 to guarantee a t-shirt. All participants will need to enter and exit Door 18, which is by the West Staff parking lot.
